Tubes4Boobs: Riding Waves to Raise Breast Cancer Awareness

Published on 16/09/2024

The Tubes4Boobs longboard surfing competition is more than just a surf event; it’s a heartfelt initiative born out of a personal connection to the fight against breast cancer. The event’s roots trace back to 2012 when event organizer Courtney Guihot’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 47. Shortly after, Courtney’s grandmother also faced the same battle. This life-changing experience led Courtney to take action, raising awareness and funds to support the fight against breast cancer. Tubes4Boobs was born to combine a love of surfing with a powerful cause.

The idea for Tubes4Boobs was sparked by Courtney’s husband, Marlenn Guihot, whose passion for surfing became the foundation for the event. Together, they decided to create a longboard surfing competition in their hometown of Newcastle. The event now features seven surfing divisions, including the crowd-favorite tag team event, where surfers raise awareness and support for Cancer Council in Newcastle, Hunter, and Lake Macquarie. The unique blend of surfing and community spirit has made Tubes4Boobs a standout event in the area, attracting surfers and supporters alike.

Since 2015, Tubes4Boobs has grown into a significant fundraiser, raising over $80,000 for Cancer Council NSW across five events. The event has been supported by some of the biggest brands in the surfing world, including Okanui, Rip Curl, and Billabong. The Newcastle community has truly rallied around Tubes4Boobs, with local businesses stepping up as sponsors and donating prizes for competitors and raffle draws. The event has become a staple in the local surf scene, known for its fun, inclusive atmosphere and its commitment to a great cause.

This year, Tubes4Boobs has set an ambitious goal of raising $20,000, which will bring the total funds raised to an incredible $100,000. This milestone represents the collective effort of the community, sponsors, and participants who have all contributed to making a difference in the fight against breast cancer.
