Team NSW Juniors are heading to Aussies!

Published on 25/11/2024

Surfing NSW successfully wrapped up the 2024 Team NSW State Camp, held from 8th-11th October at the Sydney Academy of Sport. This pivotal camp saw 36 of the NSW State Team come together for an intensive program aimed at honing their skills and fostering team unity ahead of the Australian Junior Surfing Titles, which will take place in Wollongong from this Sunday (24th Nov).

With coaching expertise from Jarrad Howse, Matt Cattle, and Tru Starling, the camp focused on the theme of DEDICATION. The athletes engaged in sessions designed to sharpen their competitive edge and enhance their mental and physical preparation, with the overarching goal of developing the attributes needed for success at the national level.

Coach Matty Cattle said “The camp was an Incredible experience to connect & support with Team NSW Juniors to achieve their goals at the upcoming Australian Titles.”

The state camp also incorporated a holistic approach to athlete development. Breathwork and movement training, led by Matt Grainger and Felipe Denari, played a critical role in teaching the surfers how to harness their mental resilience and physical endurance, both essential to peak performance in competitive surfing.

A standout attribute of the camp was an immersive day at URBNSURF Sydney, where athletes took full control of the wave pool to showcase their skills. The experience was made even more memorable by the special appearance of professional surfers Noa Deane who provided invaluable insights and inspiration to the young athletes

The camp took advantage of excellent conditions on the Northern Beaches, providing athletes with the perfect setting to sharpen their surfing skills. As the Australian Junior Surfing Titles approach, Team NSW looks more focused and unified than ever, ready to take on the nation’s best junior surfers in Wollongong and leave their mark on the national stage.

U16’s athlete and camp participant Balin Cullen said “that was the best camp I have ever done! Jarrod gave me such good coaching and I had so much fun with all the NSW team. I can’t wait for Aussies!”

We wish these athletes the best of luck heading into next week’s event! Go Team NSW!
