The newly announced Port Macquarie Open is set to land kick off on the mid-north coast region this forthcoming weekend and showcase some of Australia’s best and most promising surfers.
The elite two-day event is the fourth stop on the Australian Open of Surfing series and will see over 90 competitors competing across the male and female divisions.
The entire series features eight events that will take place in the latter months of 2020 and provide professional and aspiring surfers with the opportunity to win prize money and gain momentum going into 2021.
“A big thanks to Port Macquarie – Hastings Council who is proudly sponsoring the Port Macquarie leg of the Australian Open of Surfing series, which will bring elite surfers to the region as well as many eyes watching the breaks through the online webcast. It’s wonderful to have COVID safe events coming back to the regions’ who have not only felt the effects of COVID but also the bushfires last summer,” said Surfing NSW CEO Luke Madden.
The key locations for the Port Macquarie Open are Town Beach and Lighthouse Beach with backup locations of Flynns Beach, North Haven and Bonny Hills.
All competitors are advised to ring the event hotline (0458 247 212) by 6.45am on the days of competition to confirm location and running order.
Each event in NSW will see a total $7000 prize purse with $1500 going to the winner of the Men’s and Women’s divisions.
In addition to a larger prize purse, all events on the series will be webcast live through surfingnsw.com.au and the Surfing NSW Facebook.
This event in Port Macquarie will be the first Surfing NSW event hosted here in close to five year.
