RIP CURL GROMSEARCH CANCELLED DUE TO ESCALTING COVID CASES

Published on 10/01/2022

Newcastle, NSW (Monday 10th January 2022): Surfing NSW and Rip Curl have cancelled the upcoming Rip Curl GromSearch at Merewether, Newcastle due to the ongoing COVID19 concerns Nationally. The event was due to be held on January 18th – 21st, 2022 (after moving from the original dates of September 30 – Oct 2, 2021). Both decisions have been made due to Covid related considerations.

With the current Covid situation increasing in significance nationally, in NSW, as well as locally in Newcastle, organisers have opted to avoid any further risk of additional exposure to competitors, families, and local residents by holding the event.

“Cancelling an event is a difficult decision to make. We’ve been committed to running the GromSearch series whenever we can, but the health and safety of competitors, and our respect and consideration for the communities where we run the events always takes priority” commented Rip Curl Team and Events manager Mark Flanagan about the decision.

All competitors will receive a full refund in the coming weeks.

Further information will be distributed regarding selection for the GromSearch National Final, scheduled for March 7, 2022.
