ALOHA JUNIOR TEAMS EVENT IS BACK FOR 2021

Published on 04/06/2021

The Aloha Junior Teams is back again and will light up Manly Beach from 28th-29th September with a range of teams competing for a share in a whopping $10,000 purse.

The event will see 24 junior boardriders clubs teams compete in an new exciting multiple format that will test the competitive skills of some of this country’s best young talent.

The competitive nature of inter-club surfing  was on show last year when 24 teams lined up for the inaugural Aloha Junior Teams competition and two days of epic conditions , it was the lads from North Avalon who charged home to upset local favourites North Steyne.

NASA Team captain, Arch Whiteman, was one of many to shine last year and is excited as they look to defend the club’s title in the 2021 event.

“It was massive to win last year’s event. The waves were pumping and my twin had to bring it home in our final heat and lucky for us he nailed it with a 8-point ride, so it was a special day for our club,” Whiteman said. “There is such a great rivalry between all the clubs, so we can’t wait to try and defend our title and hopefully go back-to-back.”

This year each team will consist of five surfers:

1 x Under-18

1 X Under-16

1 X Under-14

1 X Under-12 boys and 1 x Under-18 girl to test the depth of each club.

After all first round heats, the top 12 sides will progress into a tag-team format,

Event director Adam Hennessey believes that’s where the pressure will kick in.

”Last year was such a great vibe and all the positive feedback led to us going again in 2021,” said Hennessey. “We also wanted to add girls into it as they play a big part in clubs and having tag team also challenges the groms as they have to work in a team environment.”

The event will again be broadcast live on surfingnsw.com.au giving friends and family a change to get online and support their local teams.

The event is proudly supported by Aloha Manly, Hurley, Dr V Energy, Novotel Manly, NSW State Government, Kazzi Manly, Ray White Freshwater, Open 4, Northern Beaches Council, Live Heats and Surfing NSW.
