Port Stephens to Welcome State’s Best Longboard and SUP Athletes for State Titles

Published on 28/01/2022

The state’s top stand-up-paddleboard (SUP) and longboard athletes will call Port Stephens home when the NSW SUP and Longboard Titles get underway in April.

The NSW Longboard Titles run from Thursday 28 April – Saturday 30 April and the SUP Titles follow from Sunday 1 May – Tuesday 3 May.

The two State Title events will form the Port Stephens Surf Festival and decide the NSW teams for the upcoming Australian SUP Titles and the Australian Longboard Titles later in the year.

Surfing NSW says that more than 170 competitors are expected to attend the combined six-day event at One Mile Beach and the SUP marathon event held in Shoal Bay.

“We love that our SUP and longboard State Titles attract competitors from the entire state, as far north as Tweed Heads and Tomakin in the far south,” said Surfing NSW Event Manager Rohan Fell.

“We’re looking forward to having everyone returning to competition in 2022  and can’t wait to see defending champions as well as new talent join us in Port Stephens in April.”

Mayor at Port Stephens Council, Ryan Palmer, said he was thrilled to once again welcome the states best stand-up paddlers and longboarders to the region.

“We’re incredibly excited to see some of the states’ most talented athletes arrive in Port Stephens for this six-day event,” Palmer said

“This event will deliver a wonderful boost for our local region, and forms part of a big program of events we have planned for 2022.”

The repechage format will return in 2022 to allow a second chance across all divisions. This format will be based on competitor numbers and divisions without repechage numbers will follow knockout format.

The competition will commence each day at 7:30 am with the call for the day’s schedule and location confirmed via the event hotline at 6:45 am. The event hotline is 0458 247 212.

The 2022 Port Stephens Surf Festival is proudly supported by Australian Skin Cancer Clinics, Crest Café, Port Stephens Council and Surfing NSW.
