Crescent Head Boardriders – Club of the Month

Published on 26/02/2025

Crescent Head Boardriders (CHB) have a rich history and a bright future. Established in the late 1970s as The Macleay Valley Boardriders, the club grew in the 1980s, becoming one of the strongest on the Mid North Coast. Eventually rebranding the club in 2002 to The Crescent Head Boardriders, the club has been a pivotal part of the Crescent Head surf community for a very long time.

While the club experienced a break in 2015 due to a lack of organisers, it is back this year—bigger and better than ever!

A Fresh Start for a Thriving Community

The driving force behind the club’s revival is Kaisha Sant, the newly appointed Club President. Along with Chloe Ashton (Treasurer), Millie Coy (Vice President) and Hayley Ashton (Secretary), the passionate group of community members have decided to not only give their own children a place to compete but also develop their surfing skills in a supportive and nurturing environment.

Their motivation for restarting CHB is simple yet powerful: they want to offer the same positive, community-driven experiences they were given as children, while creating a space for people of all ages to come together, share their love for surfing, and enjoy the beach lifestyle.

“It’s all about creating opportunities for kids to develop their skills and giving them the chance to compete,” says Kaisha. “We want to bring everyone back together and help re-establish the club as a core part of Crescent Head’s surf culture.”

With nearly 150 members signed up for 2025, it’s looking to be a big year for the club.

Major Wins and Future Goals

One of the club’s biggest achievements so far has been hosting a major event, showcasing the talents of its surfers and bringing the community together for a day of competition and fun. Additionally, the club has invested in a new club trailer—another significant milestone in its journey towards revitalisation.

As CHB continues to grow, Kaisha and her team are focused on building on this momentum and creating a vibrant community of surfers who can enjoy the sport, learn from each other, and compete in a range of events throughout the year.

One of the club’s newest standout junior surfers to keep an eye on is Olivia Ottaway. Recently signing with Rusty, Olivia is a talented young surfer who is already making waves in the local surf scene. With the support of the CHB there’s no telling how far she will go. With plenty of talent coming through Crescent,  Joey Silk, Jacinta Greenup, Manoa Galli and Chelsea Darling are also ones to keep an eye on.

With many original members resigned, and a bunch of new members stepping up to the plate, it’s looking like an impressive year of surfing awaits.

Looking Ahead

CHB are determined to continue their upward trajectory, bringing the community together, supporting local talent, and ensuring the next generation of surfers has the same opportunities they did. The future is bright for this dedicated club, and it’s exciting to see what they will achieve next.
