CITY OF NEWCASTLE TO HOST ANOTHER EPIC NUDIE AUSTRALIAN BOARDRIDERS BATTLE SERIES NATIONAL FINAL THIS MAY

Published on 18/01/2021

Series eight of the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle will culminate in another heart-stopping National Final in Newcastle on May 15th through 16th as the cream of the crop in Australian club surfing gets set to rumble for the biggest bragging rights of all.

Newcastle Main Beach is the spiritual home of the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle Series National Final and will play host to the big dance for the fourth year running in 2021 after City of Newcastle and Surfing Australian finalised their latest partnership.

Minister for Tourism Stuart Ayres said the longstanding partnership between the NSW Government, via its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, and Surfing Australia reinforced the state’s reputation as Australia’s home of surfing.

“New South Wales has hosted the final of the Australian Boardriders Battle since 2014, and we are delighted to see the thrilling event head to Newcastle in 2021.

“The event is the biggest grassroots boardriders competition in the country, and the participation of WSL athletes draws international attention from surfing fans around the globe. I look forward to seeing all the action take place in Newcastle and encourage participants, their supporters and spectators to plan ahead and experience all this magnificent city has to offer,” Minister Ayres said.

With only the Victorian state qualifying event remaining on the calendar, all the pieces of the puzzle are almost in place. No other surfing event showcases talent from the junior ranks, world tour big names and legends of the sport like the National Final two-day surfing extravaganza.

Surfing Australian CEO Chris Mater said:“ This event is the biggest on our national calendar and there is always a massive buzz leading up to the Final. It’s great that we can showcase the best of the best in Australian Boardrider talent and team spirit, as well as everything Newcastle has to offer as the epic city it is! We can’t wait to see who comes away with the trophy in May and good luck to all who have qualified and our clubs in Victoria yet to do battle.”
