WORDS WITH WINNY – SURF SCHOOL NEWS // OCTOBER

Published on 26/10/2021

G’day troops,

So looking forward to kicking 2021 in to touch, what a nightmare of a year for all concerned, surf school operators, boardrider clubs and event operators.

Now with 80% double vaxed, NSW is starting to claw its way back to some form of normality, so fingers crossed the coming summer will see plenty of potential frothing groms wanting to sample  Australia’s number one lifestyle sport to keep the till ticking over – kaching!

The race that stops the nation is around the corner, families will soon be dusting off the Christmas tree and Surfing NSW will be sending out the latest affiliation and insurance docs for 2022. With that in mind, its time to, sharpen the old pencil, dig out the abacus and get in to Surf Admin Mode, a time of year we all love.

Paying Respect to Sandy English

The first female Life Member of Surfing NSW, Sandra English, has called time on her surfing career and is looking to the next chapter in her life. With over 20 NSW Titles, 14 Australian Titles, plus a World title and several podium finishes at World ISA Games she has had a very illustrious career.

Add to this either managing and/or coaching NSW & Australian Teams over the past 20 years, which have included athletes such as Stephanie Gilmore, Sally Fitzgibbons, Tyler Wright, Laura Enever and Britt Nicholl, is fairly impressive, to say the least.

Sandy has owned and operated a surf school over these years at Soldiers Beach and has played a major role in Women’s Surfing in Australia. On behalf of everyone at Surfing NSW we wish Sandy all the best for the future.

Keeps an eye out for some more info regarding the 2022 Surf School Affiliation towards the tail end of the week.  Between myself and Adam Semo we will try and make this process as smooth as possible so that the 2022 affiliation is done and dusted before the New Year.

Yours in Surfing
