The 2025 NSW Junior State Camp wrapped up after four incredible days of training, learning and connection, preparing Team NSW junior athletes ahead of the Australian Junior Surfing Titles.

Forty-two of the state’s best junior athletes took part in this year’s camp, kicking off with perfect conditions at URBNSURF Sydney. With a full pool takeover, surfers worked on their fundamentals and technique in a controlled environment before heading into a weekend of ocean sessions, video reviews and team preparation.

Athletes were split into three training groups, guided by an elite coaching team featuring Jarrad Howse, Monty Tait, Nick James, Matt Grainger, Philippa Anderson and Kyla Whitfield. Each coach provided expert feedback and individual support across the four days.

Our crew also lucky to have Martin Dunn sharing his expertise throughout the camp, helping athletes better understand performance habits and technical execution. Each athlete took home Martin’s Progressive Surfing training system and skill cards, giving them the tools to keep building their surfing beyond the camp.

The Northern Beaches delivered fun and punchy waves, perfect for putting new skills into action and showing the depth of talent across our NSW squad. When the surfing wrapped up, the fun didn’t stop. From touch footy and marshmallows by the fire to wild hair dye and plenty of laughs, the team bond was strong and full of spirit. After a few long days in the surf, Matt Grainger led a recovery and breathwork session to help everyone reset both mind and body.

The final day brought a high-stakes Tag Team challenge, testing teamwork and strategy under pressure. The winning group scored URBNSURF vouchers and some serious bragging rights.

The 2025 NSW Junior State Camp, powered by the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, was a huge success. It blended skill development, teamwork and fun, leaving athletes inspired, connected and ready to represent their state on the national stage. Can they defend their title and go back-to-back?
