The 2023 Skullcandy Oz Grom Open presented by Vissla will land in Lennox Head this forthcoming July.

Published on 10/05/2023

The six-day event will run from 6 July –11 July 2023 and will comprise of a World Surf League (WSL) sanctioned Pro Junior Qualifying Series (JQS) event as well as an elite competition for promising grommets in the 14, 16 and 18 year age divisions.

In a similar vein to preceding years – where the event has attracted surfers from ten different countries – a full international field is again expected in 2023 with surfers coming from as far away as Europe, USA, Hawaii, Indonesia and Japan to make up a field of more than 270 surfers across all divisions.

A five-person judging panel comprised of current WSL Championship Tour and Qualifying Series judges will be on-site as well as a live webcast that collectively sets this event above any other junior competition in the world.

Skullcandy Australia GM David Chegwyn said, “This event has a great history and Skullcandy has been the headline sponsor, for well over a decade now. The key component for our company is to support junior surfing in this region, and beyond, with a focus on promoting the event to local, national and international competitors.”

Vissla’s John Mossop shared Chegwyn’s sentiments by explaining, “We’re thrilled to continue our support of grassroots surfing through events like the 2023 Skullcandy Oz Grom Open presented by Vissla will be the eighth year we’ve supported this event and every year it continues to go from strength to strength.”

Former World Junior Champion, Le-Ba local and event commentator James Wood added, “This an awesome event and one of the main events that every aspiring young professional surfer wants to win. A big kudos goes out to Skullcandy, Vissla and the entire Lennox Head community who put tireless hours into making this event such a success.”

Former event champions include a range of current and former World Championship Tour and Challenger Series surfers, such as, Macy Callaghan, Mikey, Owen and Tyler Wright, Jack Robinson and local surfers Mikey McDonagh and Nyxie Ryan.
