Masters of the craft will return to Boomerang Beach this May

The Volkswagen NSW Surfmasters Titles presented by Moby’s Beachside Retreat is confirmed for 31st May until the 4th of June.

The prominent five-day event will see over 160 competitors aged 35 and above, battle it out in one of Australia’s most iconic beaches, Boomerang Beach. All competitors will be surfing to the number one spot where they can claim their 2023 NSW Shortboard title and a spot in Team NSW where they will represent the state at the 2023 Australian Surf Championships this August.

The star-studded field of competitors will include former World Surf League (WSL) tour competitor Amee Donohoe (Over 35 Women), defending Australian Champions Christo Hall (Over 40 Men), Paul Snow (Over 45 Men), and multiple Australian Champion and State Champion Rob Baldwin (Over 60 Men).

Surfing NSW Head of Events, Competition and Pathway, Tom Dickson, explained just how iconic this event is. “The Surfmaster States Titles is one of the most exciting events on the Surfing NSW events calendar. It’s a chance to see all your childhood icons battle it out in the water once again while also providing a platform for some of our country’s most talented surfers to continue to compete.”

This 2023 event will mark the twelfth Volkswagen NSW Surfmasters Titles presented by Moby’s Beachside Retreat, which continues to be held in the Great Lakes region.

“We are stoked to come back to Great Lakes, rated as one of the best beaches in Australia. We are so lucky to have this on our doorstep,” Surfing NSW CEO Luke Madden said. “With such great support from our partners Volkswagen, Moby’s Beachside Retreat, and Mid Coast Council, we are really privileged to continue to run this amazing event for our state’s best athletes.”

The competition will commence each day at 7:30 am with the call for the day’s schedule and location confirmed via the event hotline at 6:45 am. The event hotline is 0458 247 212, where all competitors will receive updates and important information in real time.

Divisions for the event include Over 35 Men, Over 35 Women, Over 40 Men, Over 45 Men, Over 50 Men, Over 55 Men, Over 60 Men, and Over 65 Men.

Surfing NSW will also host an evening function on Friday the 2nd of June to celebrate Surfing NSW’s 60th anniversary amongst the competitors and crew members that have been such an integral part of the organisation’s longevity.
