Maroubra United Win the Australian Boardriders Battle

Published on 27/11/2022

Maroubra United have claimed the Australian Boardriders Battle NSW southern qualifier after an incredible day of surfing. The sun was out and the conditions did not disappoint with two-to-three foot wedges rolling through at Town Beach, Kiama.

Maroubra United boardriders club set a high standard over the duration of the day with the team consistently posting high scores across all the rounds of competition.

Anchored by former WSL Qualifying Series super grom Monty Tait. Tait was able to give the team the upper hand on his rivals early, by dropping the highest wave in the final with an 8.83 out of 10. Scarborough were able to just make it back in on time to secure second place followed by Jones Beach and Elouera. All four clubs have now secured the final remaining spots for the Australian Boardriders National Final, which will take place in early 2023.

Moments after Maroubra United claimed victory, Monty Tait said, “I’m so happy right now with this win for the club, I know it’ll mean the world to our community back home.” Tait also thanked the older boys who came down and supported their team all day.

The Maroubra United team consisted of a star-studded line up of epic talent, including former World Tour surfer Blake Thornton, WSL Qualifiying surfer Koda Killorn, Monty Tait, Isabella Taviani and Mateus Bersot.

Although the Ulludalla Boardriders team did not qualify for the national final, Ulludalla local Ruby Reents scored a 9.17 point ride on the day which has taken her to the top of the ‘She’s Electric’ leader board. Ruby will now nervously wait ahead of the national final event to see if she can hang on to the top spot.
