Coffs Harbour Win ABB North

Published on 18/11/2024

Coffs Harbour Boardriders have taken out the Australian Boardriders Battle Northern NSW regional qualifier for a second year straight. Following a giant day after not running previously due to hazardous surf conditions, but commencing today with a full day of action-packed heats in two-foot playful peaks at Macauleys Beach.

The local crew from Coffs Harbour Boardriders was comprised of Will Martin, Jayke Sharp, Rosie Smart, Creed Smart and Lee Winkler.

Coffs Harbour Boardriders female surfer Rosie Smart was the in-form surfer of the day, with her impressive ability to drop consistent excellent scoring waves. Rosie took home the Boost Wave of the Day Award whilst assisting her team to victory.

Team captain and master surfer Lee Winkler said “This is the first time we have won back-to-back and we are so stoked! We didn’t have too many stuff up’s today, despite how stressful it is to surf these kind of heats. We thought the surf might’ve been flat so we are stoked it turned on for us at home. See you guys at Burleigh!”

Coffs Harbour, Kingscliff, LeBa, Byron Bay, Woolgoolga and Port Macquarie Boardriders all have now qualified for the national final, which will be held on March 8-9, 2025 at Burleigh Heads, QLD.

The boardrider club phenomenon in Australia has made a significant contribution to the nations competitive success on the global stage, fostering close-knit communities that support young surfers on their journeys to becoming the next World Champions.

Surfing Australia last year expanded the Grand Final format to include 42 boardrider clubs (previously 24) from across Australia, with more than $115,000 in total prize money up for grabs throughout the series.

The Australian Boardriders Battle Series is proudly supported by Jim Beam, ACCIONA, Ruffie Rustic Foods, BC™ Protein Snacks, Kennards Hire, Oakley, Dometic, Boost Mobile, Blackroll and Surfers for Climate.
