Plenty happening at the moment, NSW has just hit 80%, so hopefully most of the restrictions we have all been operating under will be rolled back and give us some clarity moving forward, it has been a tough year for all clubs, 2021 has been a nightmare, keen to see it in the rear view mirror.
Will give you an update on all the latest re Covid later in this literary masterpiece, plus an update from the crew at Surfing NSW HQ.
With the elimination rounds for the Australian Boardriders Battle about to hit the beaches, thought we would have a closer look at one of the powerhouse clubs, Merewether Boardriders, who have been a major player in the ABB since inception.
The Steel City boys have surpassed the big 50, a landmark for any club, past members reads like a who’s who of Australian Surfing.
Number one son, MR with 4 World Titles leads the list, Col Smith, Luke Egan, Matt Hoy, Nicky Woods, to name but a few, throw in stalwarts, the likes of Trav Lynch and Jessie Adams, who grow another leg when they pull on the rashie at the ABB.
The club has always been super supportive of the grommets coming through the ranks, this year has been no exception, with Morgan Cibilic having an amazing year on the WCT, and getting to have a shot at the title after some great results on the Aussie Leg.
Jacko Baker is currently rolling the dice on the Challenger Series, with a second place finish in Portugal, has pushed him up the rankings and well and truly in contention, with only one more event remaining Jacko looks like he’s in great contention to qualify for 2022 WCT
Phillipa Anderson has put months of preparation in to her campaign, also currently in France trying to keep the dream alive, hoping to finish off on the rock, prior to Christmas.
Also a big shout out to Kim Burton who has been a great supporter of the club over the years, always a pleasure catching up with Kimbo at some of the events and savouring an ale and a tale.

The “DROP IN” Hits Mollymook

The night will feature a mental health talk presented by our good friends at Batry followed by a light dinner and a classic Aussie documentary – Happy Sad Man.

COVID-19 Update
From 18 October 2021, eased restrictions has enabled community sport activities to return in compliance with the Public Health Order and gatherings limits.
With the current restrictions all competitors, spectators and officials – aged 16 and over – will require double vaccination to compete and attend the competition zone for community events in this period. https://www.sport.nsw.gov.au/covid-19-information
- The maximum number of people for a COVID-19 safe outdoor public gathering is 200 people. Activity organisers must have an ‘Outdoor events’ COVID-19 Safety Plan in place. Click here to see the template for community sports including clubs; Safety plans Outdoor events
- Outdoor gatherings up to 50 people – A COVID-19 Safety Plan is not required for this type of gathering though QR codes upon check in are still recommended.
- Unvaccinated children 15 and under may participate in outdoor public gatherings for sport and exercise and count towards the total number of people.
- A child (15 years and under) is not required to be accompanied by an adult member of the household. All adults attending the gathering must be fully vaccinated.
- The 1 person per 2 square metre density requirement applies for all outdoor gatherings
The Australian Boardriders Battle Central Regional Qualifier (Central Clubs) at North Narrabeen on 27th November will be the only ABB affected by the vaccination policy prior to December 1st.
With restrictions expected to ease further from 1 December 2021 we will keep you all in the loop as new information is available from the NSW Government.
