Northern Beaches Para Surfer Boardriders Club X SNSW –

Club of the Month

Para Surfing, also known as adaptive surfing, is a rapidly growing sport that provides individuals with physical disabilities the opportunity to experience the thrill of riding a wave.

A club that’s grassroots, community focused and inclusive experience to adaptive/para surfers of all abilities and whose subject is to turn challenges into opportunities and adversity into adventure, NBPSB is back for 2024 and are making a difference!

The first comp was held on the 11th Feb 2023. It was Club President and current ISA World Para Surfing Champion, Em Dieters, who gathered a passionate crew of adaptive surfers together after realising that National’s was the first contest on the pathway to the World Championships. The aim was to empower para surfers and create a positive impact on their lives by breaking barriers, embracing diversity, and celebrate the joy of riding waves together on the Northern Beaches.

Like regular boardriders clubs, the club organises 10 monthly competitions per season. Just like regular boardriders, you’ll have to come prepared with your own equipment as well as arranging what support people you’ll need in and out of the water. However, Em said among the club and their passionate crew, they’re looking to have equipment available for new members to try as they become more established. Em says they are working on building relationships with Industry and surrounding partners to help provide as much assistance and advice with the least amount of financial outlay for the participant.

NBPSB caters to surfers of all skill levels and will provide programs for individuals with physical disabilities. They welcome anyone and everyone! Joining NBPSB means becoming part of a tight-knit community that thrives on the love for surfing and camaraderie.

Thanks to Mona Vale Boardriders and Mona Vale Surf Life Saving Club, there are accessible facilities to ensure that everyone can enjoy their time at the beach and get warm and dry post surf. There is beach matting for easy access on the sand and beach wheelchairs for members to use if required.

“We have had a lot of support from Surfing Australia + NSW and from local businesses and we have a major financial supporter Pittwater RSL. It’s people & organizations like this that see what we are trying to achieve that are making it happen.”

There are many ways to get involved. If you’re interested in joining the club you can sign up for a membership here and if you’re wanting to get involved as a sponsor/partnership please see here. Otherwise NBPSB are always on the lookout for passionate individuals who want to make a difference, in which case you can see here about volunteering opportunities.

Join the NBPSB community today and discover the exhilarating world of inclusive surfing. Ride the waves, connect with like-minded individuals, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
