LAUNCH DATES FOR EPIC WOOLWORTHS SURFER GROMS COMPS SEASON ANNOUNCED

Published on 16/08/2021

The 2021 Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps National Series will get underway from September 18th in Kiama, New South Wales.

The event series will cover the country across ten events culminating in an epic National Final at the Surfing Australia High Performance Centre (HPC) across the weekend of December 17th through 19th.

Approximately eighty competitors are expected to enter each stop in the series (with approximately fifty competitors expected in South Australia and Tasmania), which will see some of the nation’s future champions competing for top honours.

Woolworths Head of Community & Sponsorships Sarah De La Mare said “We take great pride in supporting junior surfing across Australia, especially since there is a natural connection between fresh food and athletes performing at their best.

“We’re excited to help create the next generation of Aussie surfing champions and can’t wait to see the fresh talent in this season’s Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps.”

Regarded as one of the major stepping stones in the development of young Australian surfers, the 10-event Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps series caters for surfers from Under 8 to Under 14 and will be held in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia, Tasmania and South Australia over summer.

Surfing Australia CEO Chris Mater said: “The Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps series is a crucial part of Surfing Australia’s event schedule and a great way for expiring junior surfers to compete against the rest of the country’s best talent.

“We are stoked to have Woolworths back on board to support fresh talent and I can’t wait to see the latest batch of super grom come through the ranks.”

As an added bonus, the respective winners of the Under 14 boys’ and girls’ divisions from each event will receive an invite to attend an all-expenses-paid, three-day Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps National Final Surf Camp, (1-day coaching clinic, 2 days of competition and heat analysis coaching) at the Surfing Australia High-Performance Centre (HPC).

For the South Australian, Victorian and Tasmanian events, the Woolworths Surf Camp prize will be awarded to the highest place Under-14 Boy and Girl who reside in that respective State.

Each division of the 2021 Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps has been added to the 2021 Surfing Australia National Junior Rankings with each event rated at 5500pts for first place with points descending respectively. A result at this event will contribute to a competitor’s overall National Junior Ranking.
