A WORD FROM WINNY – SURF SCHOOL NEWS // 15 SEPTEMBER 2021

Published on 16/09/2021

Spring has given us a taste of what it has to offer as well as a last push of winter swell coupled with this, as Covid vaccinations grow, we will hopefully see more restrictions start to wind back and life return to some form of normality.

Philippa Anderson Heads Overseas

This month’s Words with Winny we thought it would be nice to show some support for one of our coaches and WQS surfer Philippa Anderson.

Philippa Anderson, owner-operator of her namesake surf school in Newcastle, in recent months has been training the house down, having qualified for the upcoming WSL Challenger Series.

The learn to surf soft boards,  go back into the rack and the competitive quiver has been dusted off ready for action.

Plenty of travel is involved for the Novocastrian chasing her dream, first stop is Huntington Beach for the US Open of Surfing.

Stop number 2, Portugal for the MEO Pro, there is nothing like hanging out in airports to test your sense of humour, especially when you’re travelling with 8 plus boards and pushing the boundaries on excess baggage.

The legendary beach breaks of Hossegor in France will host the Quiksilver Roxy Pro, and with hopefully enough gas in the tank and dollars on the credit card, or better still, a pocketful of prizemoney, to make Hawaii and the Haleiwa Challenger.

Not a bad way to wind up a stressful year, no doubt Philippa will be the envy of her surf school brethren back in NSW who have been playing Lockdown Lotto for a big part of 2021 due to Covid restrictions.

Philippa from all the team at Surfing NSW and your fellow surf school operators all the best, hope you get the chocolates!
