Inclement weather spelt an early end to the opening day of competition for the Far South Coast Open pres. by Mental Health 360, but that didn’t stop some of Australia’s best from making their mark on competition as they head into finals day tomorrow.

Jordy Lawler (Narrabeen, NSW) showed why he was one of Australia’s best surfers, nailing a gigantic 18.17 two-wave heat total in his opening heat. The northern beaches goofy-footer threw away a handful of excellent scoring waves (eight and above) over the course of the opening exchange and as result sealed himself a spot into the upcoming rounds.

Eager to hang onto his Australian Open of Surfing series ratings lead, Dylan Moffat (Narrabeen, NSW) shone in his second-round heat, prior to the event being called off for the day due to inclement wind and weather. Moffat sent a warning shot over the head of his fellow competitors posting a massive 17.43 two-wave heat total for a series of exciting snaps and carves to claim the second-round win and earn a spot into the quarterfinals.

Kasey Hargreaves (Stanwell Park) and Shyla Short (Austinmer) both flew the flag for the Illawarra surfing contingent, posting respectable heat totals to cement themselves a spot into the second round of competition that will be contested tomorrow.

The key location for the Far South Coast Pro is Dalmeny Point with backup locations of Narooma, Kianga, Mummuga Point, Yabbara Point, Duesburys and Carter Beach.
