2021 BILLABONG OZ GROM CUP SHAPING UP FOR A GIANT FINALS DAY.

Published on 10/04/2021

The Billabong Oz Grom Cup pres. by Coopers Surf Australia heated up with the event moving south to Park Beach where competitors were greeted by clean two-foot surf.

Sierra Kerr (USA) appeared to channel the aerial antics of her Dad – former World Championship Tour surfer Josh Kerr – and current WSL Championship Tour number one Carissa Moore, as she nailed an innovative straight air to book herself a spot into the 14-Girls quarterfinals. Kerr executed a solid display of surfing over the course of her round two heat as she performed a handful of eclectic snaps, carves and airs to finish the heat with a solid 15.34 two-wave total.

Juniper Harper (Lennox Head, NSW), Sasha Lewis (Sandy Beach, NSW) and Shyla Short (Austinmer, NSW) also all posted victories in the 14-Girls division and cemented their spot into the semi-finals.

Ty Richardson (Palm Beach, Qld), Hughie Vaughan (Bateau Bay, NSW) and Lennix Smith (Barrack Heights, NSW) all shone in the 16-Boys, posting impressive victories to earn a spot into tomorrow’s semi-finals. All three surfers successfully navigated the rippy afternoon lineup to keep their dream alive going into finals day.

Rosie Smart (Sawtell, NSW) and Coco Cairns (Tewantin, Qld) made their presence felt in the 16 Girls, with both surfers showing their competence in tricky beachbreak conditions as they posted heat victories and solidified a spot into the semi-finals which will be contested tomorrow.

Former champions include 2016 World Junior Champion and current WSL World Championship Tour surfer Macy Callaghan who claimed her respective division in the event’s inaugural year. Since then, the event has been won by a range of Australia’s best and most promising junior surfers.

In addition to all the action in the ocean, the final two days of the event will also be webcast through Surfing NSW’s social channels.

All event presentations will be hosted at the Hoey Moey.

Boys and Girls divisions for the event include 8-and-Under Mixed, 10-and-Under, 12-and-Under, 14-and-Under and 16-and-Under.
